# Week 13 : Multimedia Project Documentation

 http://www1.uwe.ac.uk/images/sustainability-document-folders.jpg

We're focusing on the project documentation this week.

There are a few reason why we really need to do the documentation part.

1. Reference for future changes if there is some problem occur on the development phase.

2.  Historical record for estimating duration and cost on future projects, activities, and tasks.

3. Input for further training and development of the project team

4. Input for performance evaluation by the functional managers of the project team members

There are 3 types of documentation include in this multimedia development which are:
  1. Planning/Design Document - how we plan it, the content, focus, storyboard, design, cost and time duration.
  2. Support Document - the documents that include in the courseware to help the user understand more on how to use the courseware
  3. Final Document- five important points which are introduction, group meeting, testing and evaluation, suggestion, improvement and members reflection

# Week 11 : Multimedia Courseware Evaluation

As what I told about evaluation before, it is about giving questionnaire to the user, they answer and rate for it.( this is just one of the methods )

So, today Mr Juhazren asks us to find for some example of evaluation form, specifically for a courseware. We are also have to define between the formative and summative evaluation.

So, I come out with this which this is clearly define.

And about the evaluation form, we realize that there are different groups of people included in the evluation, which are the developer (among us), the users (students and teachers) and the expert (either in design or the content presented).

The evaluation form questionnaires for the experts should be more depth and specific.

# Week 10 : Mid Term Break!

Y. U. H. U. U !!

it is mid term break :)

Errr, but we have assignment to be presented next week!

Don't cry.

Verily, with hardship, there is relief. (94:6)

I am sorry, Allah. Let's gear up for Ummah!!

# Week 9 : Prototype Presentation

Last week was the most tired-mind week, where we have to work 24/7 just for the coursework.

Since i am not really good in flash ( i admit that ), I have to re-read all of the notes that I learn during my authoring class in last semester.

Hence the progression is a bit slow yet i am impressed with the commitment given from the two smart men in my group. Both are a kind father and really good in managing their time for family, job and study. Allah bless them.

So, this is the prototype of our group work, which we made it purposely for preschool students.

It is good to know that other groups are doing for several level of users. They are doing really great with the prototype. Hamdulillah. Excellent teachers we have here in UTM :)

So, they are coming with these topics for their courseware:

Group 2 - Water cycle
Group 3 - Hand tools
Group 4 - Hajj

Congratulation all!

# Week 8 : Testing and evaluating

Today, we learn about how important the testing and evaluating phase in developing a courseware.

Testing software for accessibility and usability will be needed at many stages in the lifecycle of a courseware.

However, the most effective time to test and evaluate a software product is during development, so that unnecessary barriers are not incorporated into a design.

As for me, this phase is really important and it really reflects our work. Either it is really prepared or vice versa. Either we are conscious enough with the needs of our users or not.

At the first time, I feel a bit puzzle on what is the differentiation of both testing and evaluating. Then after the class session, I come out with:

TESTING : running the courseware, checking on all of the navigations either it work or not, the usability

while

EVALUATING : is, we give some questionnaire, and the user answer and rate it

Anyway, let's gear up!!!

# Week 7 : Multimedia Development

Our courseware development is in progress.
Oh Allah, please ease everything.

# Week 6 : Need Analysis

Since we are so near in developing our own courseware, the lecturer emphasize on the need analysis.
The information gleaned from a needs analysis can be used to help us define our goals.

So, here is one of the models that we can use.

Throughout the process, we have to come out with the flow chart, which it makes the process easier to be documented.

I never know that different shapes in flowchart represent something.

So, today I really learn something new. Hamdulillah. Alright peeps, let me share it with you.

# Week 5: Visual design

Visual design - how your website looks?

This week lecture really reflects me. I learned about visual design either in an application or website.

Since I have my very own website that has been with me since the past 6 years , I realize that how I really care about the visual design of it.

Sometimes it takes me near 8 hours just for designing the header - plus few of times of changing the header . I don't take myself as a passion designer, it is just how i really want it looks as how i feel.

So, here is some guide on DONT in the visual design. Where some of these can be applied when you develop your very own courseware too.

1. Bad Font Usage
2. No Images, Text Only
3. No Paragraph On Long Articles
4. Very Tiny Font Size
5. Heavy Flash Usage
6. Body Text Above Colorful Background
7. Too Many Advertisement
8. Unwanted Pop Ups
9. Too Long Articles
10. Links Color Aren’t Visible

Among all above, as my very own perception, I am really uneasy to read a website which has bad font and of course too many advertisment on it. Unless, yes it is a website for advertising products.

So, guys, lets redesign our website if it is included in any point above :)

And I would like to share one presentation about visual design. I found it really interesting.

Do click here!

# Week 4: Information Design -> Interaction Design

Today, the lecturer emphasize on how to design the information.

Information design is how to 'flow the information', and to make it flow well, we need to make it interactive.

Hence, our topic discussed today was : Information design to Interaction design

There are so many people in this world got knowledge BUT not all of them know the best way to share and spread the knowledge. That is why, in order to deliver the knowledge, someone should know the strategy to deliver it effectively.

Through this courseware, the way to deliver the knowledge best is the interaction. But,how can knowledge be converted to interaction?

Well, it is a good question, peeps. We need NAVIGATION. Do navigate them. Do you remember we learn about storyboard last week? Where, in a story board, we did set the content and the navigation.

There are three part of Interaction design:

1. Organization
2. Navigation
3. Interactivity

# Week 3: Multimedia Courseware Design

This week we learn about how to design a courseware, probably on the first until the last step of designing it.

This is one of the crucial stage, where in designing a courseware, the developer should be very clear on the purpose of the development of the courseware itself.

A few things should be considered, such as:

1. concept
2. target audience
3. value
4. content
5. design
6. cost

There are tools that we can used to present these things ;

1. Flow Chart - To discuss about the content, strategy to be used
2. Storyboard -  a picturize of ideas (navigation-button) and how will it flow( from menu to...)
3. Prototype - an early design that will be criticize for improvement.

As for me, designing part ( by using storyboard) is the most critical part in order to make the courseware is useful and interactive enough.

So here, i attached a model that can be used in designing a multimedia project.

# Week 2: Multimedia Development Process

This week lecture are including:
• Steps in developing multimedia application
• Design model and methodology
Instructional design model

In all of the topic above, there is one thing that I wanted to reflect about. Under the topic of instructional design, I would like to emphasize on the instructional design project.

In developing a course ware, it is important to apply the instructional theory. This is because, those types of instructional design, will giving different experience to the pupils in exploring their learning session.

Below are types of instructional design that can be applied in the course ware:

a) Drill and practice - always used in mathematics lesson
b) Tutorials- been used to motivate the pupils to learn, a linear application
c)Simulation - suitable inscience subject where we can apply the Science Process Skill
d)Games - Sooo interactive (even I love it so much)
e)Problem Solving - quite a high mental process needed

Hence, in developing my project in this semester, I have to make sure which instructional design is really suitable with the subject that I choose. I am thinking of using ALL of these since I wanted to develop a course ware that will makes my pupils happy, gaining more knowledge and the best part is experiencing the fun of this subject through undergoing this course ware. I will discuss with my team later, insyaAllah.

# Week 1: MPT1293

It is 'a default activity' happened in my 1st class of my new semester. Get to know my lecturer and friends, studying on the weekly schedule and setting the time of class in order to make sure we are able to perform the asar solah after class. Hamdulillah.

Friends, as always, having a good quality of great friends and insyaAllah the person that I can rely on especially when I am unable to understand the lecture. Thank you Allah for giving me the opportunity to meet those people. You are always there for me,  Hamdulillah.

Anyway, what this course is all about? This course gives exposure and experience to us in developing interactive educational multimedia application based on appropriate software design theory. Hence, at the end of this course my team will be able to develop a course ware that can be used in the teaching and learning session in school.

I really hope that I can develop something for my darling KSSR pupils. May this semester will sailing smooth. May Allah ease everything.

I'm looking for this book for now.
